The fate of Orestes lies with the powerful goddess Athena. Athena, the goddess of wisdom, law, and Justice, is the Judge for the trial of Orestes. Orestes is being tried for the murder of his mother, Clytemnestra. The Furies, ancient goddesses who are brutal creatures of revenge, represent the ghost of Clytemnestra in the play. Apollo and the Furies clash many times throughout the trial, and it makes for an exciting showdown. At the conclusion of the trial, the case is so close that not even Athena feels fit to decide Orestesââ¬â¢ destiny. She calls upon a group of men to decide the case, and this sets the foundation of a Jury that will Judge all future murder cases. Athena casts her vote in favor of Orestes, and that will be the deciding vote if the Jurors are tied. Thereââ¬â¢s a moment of suspense as the ballots are tallied, then Athena announces that the ballots are tied: Orestes is set free. The actors that led to this verdict in favor of Orestes are: males are superior to females; Zeus approved the murder of Clytemnestra; Clytemnestra broke the sacred marriage bond by murdering her husband; and the acquittal will lead to a pact between Athens and the Furies. Athenaââ¬â¢s decision to free Orestes not only changes Orestesââ¬â¢ life, but the life of Athens for years to come. One of the dynamics that led to the Judgment in favor of Orestes is the superiority of paternity over maternity. Orestesââ¬â¢ defense is that the murder of a woman is less significant than the murder of a man, so the killing of Clytemnestra should be seen in ight of the slaying of Agamemnon. Apollo states that a person can have a father and no mother, and points to Athena as a perfect example of this. Athena was born from Zeusââ¬â¢ skull instead of the womb of her mother. Apollo then argues that the father, the one who plants the seed, is the only true parent. Therefore, Orestesââ¬â¢ slaying of Clytemnestra was warranted. Another reason Orestesââ¬â¢ murder was Justified is because Clytemnestra killed her husband and broke the sanctified marriage bond. The Furies respond by saying Orestesââ¬â¢ murder of his mother was worse, because he killed his own blood. Here, we ee a clash of the old and new deities: The ancient goddesses known as the Furies versus the leaders of the new school, Zeus and Apollo. The Furies stress the sacredness of family blood while Apollo stresses the sacredness of marriage. The primitive, older goddesses are defending the blood relation, as itââ¬â¢s the fundamental link between child and parent thatââ¬â¢s handed down from generation to generation. The marriage bond is much newer than the blood bond, as marriage is a product of civilization and structure in society. ââ¬Å"Marriage of a man and wife is fate itself, stronger than oaths, and Justice guards its life. (L. 21 5) Apollos claiming that nothing is stronger than fate, and marriage is brought about by fate. Also, by saying that ââ¬Å"Justice guards its life,â⬠Apollos claiming that if someone breaks a marriage, they should have to face Justice. Because Clytemnestra broke her marriage ties by killing her husband, she should pay the price with death. Another tactor tavoring Orestes is Zeus authorized and permi ed tt the assassination of Clytemnestra. Zeus, king of the gods and embodiment of Justice, couldnââ¬â¢t possibly have ordered something unjust. However, the Furies once again fire back, and they xpress that Zeus himself put his own father in shackles. This statement appalls Apollo, as he argues thereââ¬â¢s an enormous difference between shackling a man and murdering him. Zeusââ¬â¢ power and dominance cannot be compared to that of any other man or god. If Zeus sanctioned the murder of Clytemnestra, then it must be validated. The last element that led to the outcome in support of Orestes is the acquittal would result in a treaty between Athens and Argos. The result of the trial is much to the benefit of Athena and her great city. At first, the Furies are outraged by the verdict and they promise to bring destruction to the land. After multiple attempts, Athenaââ¬â¢s finally able to reason with the Furies. She explains to them that they will be beneficiaries of Athens if they choose to come. Instead of continuing on a path of hatred and destruction, Athena offers them peace and a comfortable home. ââ¬Å"l will embrace one home with you, Athena, never fail the city, you, and Zeus almightyââ¬â¢ (L. 927-930). Finally, they take her up on the offer, and the Furies promise to defend Athens for itââ¬â¢s best interests. The tone of the Furies changes from anger and hate to mercy and love. The Furies Job is to preside over Athens, and act as the citys guardians. Peace and harmony will finally reign over the mighty city of Athens. The ending to the play came as a major surprise, as Orestes was set free and the Furies made peace with the city of Athens. The trial of Orestes was a huge turning point in Greek society. They do not have time for speaking about the problems, which they have identified in the company. The main purpose of this assignment would be to arrange a training and development process for the Azamartini, which could train its registrars on how to deal with other employees. Nevertheless, the training and the development program would also target its employees for providing the graduate professional skills in them. The company lacks a serious absence of learning environment in the company. Nevertheless, this is an undeniable fact that learning is a continuous process, which needs to be implemented on a continuous basis to attain maximum skilful organizational operation (Mendenhall, 2012). The other problem of the company is its registrars who are busy people and have no significant time for looking after the employees. Nevertheless, the organization is having a good business but suffering a highly elevated business just because of inefficient registrars and the absence of learning environment in the company. Importance of training for the organization: Training and development is an integral part of an organization, which not only trains employees on some kinds of learning but also help the groom as a professional, which is very important for the high-end performance (Webb, 2012). The importance of training can well be observed by looking deep into the future requirement of an organization and the relevant skills. If the relevant skills are not available with its employees, then it forms some kind of urgency for the management that they have some counter solution for this as well. At such instances, training comes out as the most trustable option for the inception of newly proposed skills and the relevant nurturing of employees (Moon, 2013). Development of an employee is a lifetime process, which never ends in its profitability and scope. Therefore, a successful completion of the training program would mean that employees are well versed with all the expertise needed to be out into some other projects and extract some exceptional works from them. Financial weakness can also be some barriers to the training and development program. To the Azamartini Company there might be numerous barriers, which might hamper the successful completion of the training. The biggest problem for the Azamartini or a company like this is their labors that have become stagnant with the same kind of skills. There are many reasons behind the problem, which are causing and producing some strong barrier to the proposed training in the company. The registrars have become stagnant with their choice of works, which are causing them from becoming multitasking. This is also hampering the working environment in the organization. The registrars and the stagnant skills of its employees can pose some barrier to the success of the training because they might not readily absorb the importance of the proposed training. Moreover, not all the established methods of training and the relevant attracting skills can ever guarantee the success of training as it depends readily on the grasping power of employees. The other problem is the financial resources, which is a challenge for the company because the proposed training does not hold any guarantee return of the high investm ents made on the training. The other problem is the attendance of employees, which is a constraint for the company. This is because of such reason that the management has decided to scrutinize the attendance of employees. The attendance of employees is very necessary, as this would assure the success of the proposed training. The management has decided the training program on analyzing the needs of the same; however, some barriers in the company are posing threats to the success of the training program. Walter Lee Youngers Characteristics free essay sample
In the 1920ââ¬â¢s, many African-American families had left the southern states and migrated north to Chicagoââ¬â¢s South Side in search of the ââ¬Å"American Dreamâ⬠, dreaming of freedom, equality, and the opportunity that was supposed to be available to every American. This ââ¬Å"American Dreamâ⬠was sought by many African Americans in the U. S. Written by Lorraine Hansberry and produced in 1959, The play: A Raisin in the Sun, gave readers a strong meaning about the values of dreams and the struggles in fulfilling them. Unlike other plays that contain one main character, A Raisin in the Sun consisted of having two main characters: Walter and Mama. The audience may find that one of the main characters from the play, Walter, showed a hard time in understanding the values of dreams. The audience may also find Walterââ¬â¢s character to be portrayed as both: a sympathetic and an unsympathetic representation of African-American men in Chicagoââ¬â¢s Southside during the 1950-1960ââ¬â¢s. The character of the Younger family include: Lena Younger ââ¬Å"Mamaâ⬠who is in her 60ââ¬â¢s and is the matriarch of the family, her son Walter Lee Younger a 35-year old chauffeur, his wife Ruth, their son Travis and Beneatha Younger, Walterââ¬â¢s 20-year old sister that is attending college and studying to become a doctor. The Youngerââ¬â¢s each disagree with each other, resulting in the entire family arguing and fighting over how to spend the $10,000 check. Mama wants to use the money to buy a house and fulfill the dreams her and her husband shared. Ruth agrees with Mama and also wants a house and better opportunities for Travis. Beneatha needs the money to pay her tuition for medical school. Throughout the entire play, the Younger family struggles individually trying to achieve each of their dreams, and Walterââ¬â¢s dream to invest in a liquor store, results in his family losing all of the money. By the end of the play, the Youngers come to realize that their dream of owning a house is the most important dream because a house is what unites families. Readers are likely to identify Walterââ¬â¢s character in the play with many reactions. Some readers may dislike his character finding Walter to be unsympathetic. For instance: readers may feel that Walterââ¬â¢s character is presented as being an insensitive and uncaring husband, brother and son by the way he treats and belittles the women in his family, they may also find him as being inconsiderate, unsupportive and selfish. One example of Walter acting unsupportive is located in the beginning of Act I, scene I. Rather than supporting his wife Ruth, when she told Travis that they were unable to give him the fifty cents, Walter takes it upon himself giving his son money that they really are not able to afford to give him. It is early Friday morning and Ruth is in the kitchen fixing breakfast. Travis tells his mother that he needs fifty cents for school. Ruth responds by telling him she doesnââ¬â¢t have the money. As Walter enters the room, overhearing their conversation, he gives Travis the money and said, ââ¬Å"In fact, here is another fifty cents . . . Buy yourself some fruit today or take a taxicab to school or something. ,â⬠(1. 1, 1132). Walterââ¬â¢s character provides a perspective of the average African-American male. He also presented as being a typical man of the house, who is in charge of all the decision making. In addition, that same morning after Travis leaves for school, Walter is sitting at the kitchen table talking with Ruth as he waits for his breakfast. He tells her of his plans that he and his friends Willy and Bobo made to invest in a liquor store, along with his plans to use some of the money, his Mama is receiving, as a down payment and the rest to bribe someone to approve the liquor license. With no remorse, he tells her, ââ¬Å"Yeah. You see, this little liquor store we got in mind costs $75,000 and we figured the initial investment on the place be ââ¬Ëbout $30,000, see. That be $10,000 each. Course, thereââ¬â¢s a couple of hundred you got to pay soââ¬â¢s you donââ¬â¢t spend your life just waiting for them clowns to get your license approved. ,â⬠(1. 1, 1133). Walter believes that investing in the liquor store, will earn his family a fortune. However, the reader is likely to feel that he is being inconsiderate by failing to acknowledge that the money does not belong to him, it belongs to Mama and should be up to her how to spend it. Furthermore, Walter acts selfishly and is inconsiderate of what his mother wants. An example of Walter acting selfishly is located towards the end of Act I, scene II. It is Saturday, and Walter has just returned home from work. He is only concerned of the checks arrival; he fails to greet his family. He tries showing Mama the paperwork that his friend Willy put together for the liquor store, and becomes upset that Mama wanted nothing to do with his plans and had refused to even look at the papers he showed her. Sarcastically he tells Mama, ââ¬Å"Oh-so you donââ¬â¢t aim to have to speak on that again? So you have decided . Well you tell that to my boy tonight when you put him to sleep on the living room couch . . . Yeah-and tell it to my wife, Mama, tomorrow when she has to go out of here and look after somebody elseââ¬â¢s kids. And tell it to me, Mama, every time we need a new pair of curtains and I have to watch you go out and work in somebodyââ¬â¢s kitchen. Yeah, you tell me then! ,â⬠(1. 2, 1148-49). Readers are likely to find that Walter seems to act childish for trying to make her feel guilty and selfish for being angry with Mama and the decision she made. On the other hand, some readers may find Walterââ¬â¢s character likeable and feel that he is in fact sympathetic. For instance, readers may find Walter to be caring and concerned about his familyââ¬â¢s well-being. One example of Walter showing sympathy is in Act II, scene I. Later that Saturday, Walter returns home intoxicated acting rude and disrespectful. While in the kitchen, Walter realizes how miserable Ruth seems he tells her, ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s been rough, ainââ¬â¢t it, baby? I guess between two people there ainââ¬â¢t never as much understood as folks generally think there is. I mean like between me and you. How we gets to the place where we scared to talk softness to each other. Why you think it got to be like that? ,â⬠(2. 1, 1156). Although Walter seems to act as if he does not care much about Ruth, readers are able to see that she is his wife and he does love her. Furthermore, readers are likely to identify Walter as a man that is caring and that wants a better life for his family. An example of Walter being caring and showing concern is in Act II, scene II. It is Friday night a few weeks later and the family began packing to move. Mama had entrusted Walter with the responsibility of managing the rest of the money that remained from buying the house. That night as Travis was going to bed; Walter sat down beside Travis and began to talk about his plans for their future. He said to Travis, ââ¬Å"You wouldnââ¬â¢t understand yet, son, but your daddyââ¬â¢s gonna make a transaction . . . a business transaction thatââ¬â¢s going to change our lives . . . Thatââ¬â¢s how come one day when you ââ¬Ëbout seventeen years old Iââ¬â¢ll come home and Iââ¬â¢ll be pretty tired, you know what I mean, after a day of conferences and secretaries getting things wrong the way they do . . â⬠(2. 2, 1162). The readers may find it apparent that Walter considers a want in providing a better future for his family. He believes his idea to invest in the liquor will earn his family a fortune. His good intentions can be seen by the reader as being sympathetic, despite the poor decision that caused them to lose all of their money. Subsequently, readers are able to see Walter display his biggest act of sympathy. For example, in Act III, moving day, Walter seems to make up for losing all of their money by saving their house. The Chairman of the neighborhood committee, Mr. Linder attempted to buy the house from them, in an attempt to keep the neighborhood an all-white neighborhood. Walter feels discriminated and tells Mr. Linder, ââ¬Å"What I am telling you is that we called you over here to tell you that we are very proud and that this is ââ¬â this is my son, who makes the sixth generation of our family in this country, and that we have all thought about your offer and we have decided to move into our house because my father ââ¬â my father ââ¬â he earned it. ,â⬠(3, 1179). The readers may find it obvious that by Walter becoming the man of the house, it made him more sympathetic and even considerate of his family. Nevertheless, readers can identify when Walter shows acts of sympathy and concern. They may see Walter as being sympathetic for realizing that his marriage had problems and was interested on how to fix it. He also showed much concern for a better life for his family without them having to work so hard. His biggest act of being sympathetic is at the end of the play when Walter refuses to sell the house and decides to keep it, for his father earned it. However, on the other hand, readers are likely to see Walterââ¬â¢s character to be unsympathetic and uncaring. He is a typical African-American man who feels he needs to be in control of his family and the one that is in charge of making all the decisions. He often argues and fights with Ruth, Mama, and Beneatha. Most of his actions and mistakes affect the family greatly. He is the typical man of the house that struggles to support his family, and in the process tries to come up with newer and better schemes for making more money. Readers can identify Walter as a man, whom at first was far from being a good listener, and made bad decisions to a man who eventually listened to his wife and mother and at the end of the play became a man when he stood up to Mr. Linder keeping their house. In conclusion, writer/author Lorraine Hansberry created ââ¬Å"A Raisin in the Sunâ⬠to be about dreams, and the struggles that the Younger family endured in dealing with the circumstances they faced living in Southside Chicago. Although his intentions to better his familyââ¬â¢s life were good intentions, he always seemed to go about them in the wrong way. His greedy, selfish ways resulted in losing all of the money entrusted to him by Mama. At first he proved that he was incapable of being responsible, and in the end proved to be the man that Mama knew he was capable of being. It is likely that readers will find Walterââ¬â¢s character to be both; a sympathetic and an unsympathetic representation of African-American men in Chicagoââ¬â¢s Southside during the 1950ââ¬â¢s-1960.

Getting Transcripts for Graduate School Admissions An essential, often forgotten component to your graduate admissions application is your academic transcript. Your graduate application is not complete until your official academic transcript is received. What Is an Official Academic Transcript? Your official academic transcript lists all the courses that you have taken and your grades earned. It is official because it is sent directly from your college or university to the graduate admissions office and it bears the official college or university stamp, signifying its validity. How Do You Request Your Official Academic Transcript? Request your transcripts by contacting the Registrars Office at your university. Stop by the office and you can complete a series of forms, pay fees, and youre on your way. Some institutions allow students to request transcripts online. Visit the Registrars Office webpage to determine if your institution provides online transcript services. What Do You Need to Request Your Official Academic Transcript? Have the addresses for all the graduate schools to which you are applying on hand. Youll need to provide the Registrars Office with each address. Be prepared to pay a fee for each transcript that you request, typically $10-$20 each. When Do You Request Your Official Academic Transcript? Regardless of whether you request your transcript online or in person, you must process your transcript order early, well before the admissions deadline.
